She completed her undergraduate education at the Department of Psychology, Ankara University, her master's degree at the Department of Psychological Services in Education, Ankara University, and her doctoral education at the Faculty of Education, University of Leicester, UK.
Between 1987 and 1989, she worked as a psychologist at the Medico-Social Center of Ankara University. In January 1990, she started working as a research assistant at the Department of Guidance and Psychological Counseling, Faculty of Education, Çukurova University. She completed her doctoral education in 1999 and became an associate professor in 2009, and a professor in 2015. She is currently working in the same department.
Atıcı teaches undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral courses at Çukurova University in the fields of behavior management in schools, conflict resolution, psychological counselor training, professional identity development of psychological counselors, developmental psychology, and trauma in schools. She has written articles, books, and book chapters on these topics. Additionally, she has completed training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Supervision, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for anxiety and depression, as well as training on trauma, loss, and grief.
